Executive Director
Congregation Beth El
(Berkeley, California)
Congregation Beth El, nestled in a beautiful Berkeley, California residential neighborhood, is a diverse, welcoming, reform congregation with over 500 member households. Its beloved executive director, David Rothenberg, is retiring this summer, so our senior rabbi and board president will need a new partner to lead our community. While the rabbi oversees clergy and programmatic areas, the executive director provides financial, operational, and administrative leadership for our congregation overall, which includes youth and family education programs (nursery school, after-school program, and summer day camp).
Our next executive director will bring strong financial acumen and attention to detail ensuring our programs and facility run smoothly, and is a calming influence who puts people at ease. It’s important that the person has participated in anti-bias training and values a community of belonging. We’re looking for someone who relishes being onsite, surrounded by warm people with shared values and respectful differences of opinion.
Responsible for synagogue events while managing multiple people administering multiple projects, we need a fun-raiser, fundraiser, and friendraiser! Ideally with a deep knowledge of Bay Area Jewish funding sources to guide our strong board, which will provide the successful candidate the resources needed to sustain and nurture our growing community.
Maybe you’re Jewish, maybe you’re not. Either way, you understand reform Jewish customs and observances, and are deeply aligned with our mission and values. You’ve spent at least six years managing an organization with several programs, developing an operational budget and managing financial systems/outsourced services, partnering with multiple stakeholders, and overseeing compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
With six years’ experience, you’d expect to start at $135k. With additional relevant experience earning up to $150k. You’ll receive all standard benefits of medical, dental, vision, retirement, and paid time off, including a generous number of holidays based on the U.S. and Jewish calendars.
If this opportunity excites you, please send your resume and cover letter to edjob@bethelberkeley.org.
