Kolot Chayeinu Seeks an Interim Executive Director Kolot Chayeinu / Voices of Our Lives (Kolot) is a 30-years-strong, fast-growing, progressive unaffiliated Jewish congregation in Brooklyn, NY with over 450 households. Kolot is a place of inclusive ritual, supportive community, dynamic educational programming and the relentless pursuit of social justice, in alignment with Kolot’s Mission and Values Statement. Kolot is a $1.2M a year organization with a Rabbi, Cantor, 4 full-time staff, and 12-member Board. 

The current Executive Director of Kolot Chayeinu is leaving the position effective March 31 after serving over 5 years in the position. In this period of transition, Kolot seeks an Interim Executive Director who can provide leadership and manage operations while ensuring support for the clergy, staff, and the congregation and assisting the Board with a smooth transition to the next long-term ED (search in process). 


  • Manage Kolot’s lay staff (4 full-time and 2 part-time) and oversee the congregations dayto-day operations and finances 
  • Field questions from members and direct to appropriate staff, clergy, or lay leaders 
  • Work closely with the Rabbi and the Cantor to oversee congregational programming including logistics for Shabbat services, adult education, and other major congregation wide offerings 
  • Work with the staff to provide operational support for the broad spectrum of program activities ● Work with the Board to help plan Board and Board committee meetings 
  • Work with staff to support Board and volunteer committees 
  • Support the operations of the Children’s Learning Program (CLP), including onboarding of the new Director of Lifelong Learning (DLL) 
  • Oversee the rented spaces in which Kolot’s community gathers and ensure regular systems, security, and custodial operations 
  • Provide guidance to the Board about the transition to the next Executive Director’s arrival and onboarding 


  • Experienced nonprofit executive with proven ability to provide leadership and management 
  • Success in partnering with boards to guide them through leadership transitions and positioning organizations for success under new leadership 
  • Demonstrated experience managing staff and overseeing operations, finances, and fundraising at a smaller/mid-size nonprofit 
  • Experience in nurturing positive staff morale during a period of organizational change and building rapport with staff 
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist practices 
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. 
  • Preferred: experience with membership organizations with a social justice mission and/ or faith-based institutions 

Anticipated Placement Period: 4-6 months (depending upon search and arrival of new ED) 

Anticipated Time Commitment: 4-5 days per week (approximate and subject to negotiation) 

Start Date: March 15, 2023 

Location: Kolot Chayeinu is located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Administrative offices, worship space, and Children’s Learning Program are in three different locations. This position is hybrid; some on-site time in the Administrative Office is expected. 

Anticipated Compensation: $2,150/full-time week (approximate and subject to negotiation)
