Temple Emanuel Sinai of Worcester, MA is seeking a dynamic individual with the experience and skills to oversee and direct all areas related to the administration, facility oversight, and office management of our reform congregation.

The Temple Administrator is a part-time position who will work in the synagogue office 4 days a week (excluding Tuesday). Attendance at monthly Finance Committee evening meetings (currently on Zoom) is required, participation in Board of Trustee evening meetings is encouraged (currently on Zoom) as well as occasional attendance at other committee meetings.

As the Temple Administrator, you will report directly to the synagogue President(s) and will work closely with the Rabbi, Religious School Director, staff and volunteers to coordinate operations and activities across the organization. You will interact with congregants and prospective members, as well as with outside organizations requesting information about, or involved in, joint functions and activities with Temple Emanuel Sinai.

Responsibilities:

Personnel Management:  Supervise nonprofessional staff (2 office, 1 custodial, 1 book-keeper). Supervision includes participating in the hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating of staff. Set priorities and schedules for projects and daily work tasks as required. Develop job descriptions, policies, and procedures for office and custodial staff.

Budget and Finance:  Maintain financial records of the Temple in coordination with other office staff. This includes billing and collection of dues and donations, payment of all bills, maintenance of general ledger and preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, using Temple’s financial and management software (ShulCloud). Work closely with Finance Committee and Treasurer.

Information Technology:  Interface with phone, software, and internet Support Companies. Manage security and access software systems. Knowledge of streaming services.

Events Oversight:  Coordinate special events to oversee successful execution as well as respond to unforeseen circumstances. Event planning, scheduling, oversight, coordination, interfacing with individuals renting the building. Publicity where necessary, management and set-up coordination.

Purchasing Agent:  Serve as central purchasing agent for Temple. Purchase equipment and supplies as necessary in collaboration with the Finance and Properties Committees.

Communication and Publicity:  Oversee production of publicity, bi-monthly newsletter, regular communication through email, website, and social media.

Membership:  Manage the synagogue’s congregation management software (ShulCloud) for existing, new and potential members, annual renewal, billing, and donations. Coordinate efforts with Membership Committee and Leadership. Respond to inquiries from all prospective and new members. Prepare and distribute membership information in response to membership inquiries. Manage membership database.

Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in business preferred.
  • 5+ years office management and supervisory experience. Demonstrated understanding of accounting and office management compliance and recordkeeping. Experience with ShulCloud a plus.
  • Strong organizational experience. Strong understanding of business systems and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Self-directed and ability to work autonomously. Ability to adjust to changing deadlines.
  • Must adhere to strict confidentiality, ability to recognize and handle confidential information in an appropriate manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, streaming services, and software systems including QuickBooks, Microsoft Suite (including Publisher) and presentation software.
  • Social Media experience.
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit and/or faith-based organization preferred.
