Session 1: Building Personal & Professional Resilience: Boosting How You Recharge & Reset

Presented by Faun Zarge

Resilience is about far more than “bouncing back”. Resilience is about strengthening your ability to
navigate future challenges, identifying unexpected opportunities, and adapting in the face of change—arguably some of the most essential skills for synagogue leaders managing the daily operations and ever-changing needs of a congregation. Fortunately, resilience is not a static personality trait, but rather something you can develop with awareness and practice.

In this session, you will learn:

  • Best practices for strengthening resilience and staying energized
  • Why mindset matters and how to adjust your thinking when navigating challenging situations
  • Strategies for approaching future challenges with realistic optimism
  • How to ensure you have the right support for both personal and professional wellbeing

Faun Zarge, M.A. is an employee burnout and resilience expert who teaches clients how to reduce burnout and build a culture of employees are pumped to go to work each day.

She is a high-energy speaker, trainer, and coach known for her interactive programs and concrete strategies that can be put in practice immediately. With over two decades of experience in the work/life field, Faun believes that learning to navigate personal and professional challenges is critical for organizational and individual effectiveness and she loves giving people the tools to make that happen.

Working with both private and non-profit clients, Faun is committed to helping clients develop necessary skills for bringing their “A” game to every personal and professional role they play.

Session 2: Synagogues are Strange & Interesting Places to Work

Presented by Real Time Strategy Group

Synagogues are, indeed, strange and interesting places to work and never boring! In this session we will talk frankly about the realities of ShulStaffer life—the work is unending, there are minefields of feelings at every turn, and our roles are often “Franken-jobbed’ to the extreme. While there is little we can do about the peculiarity of the work, there is much we can each do (and do together!) to encourage an environment of creativity, collaboration, support, and optimism.

During this session, we will:

  • Create common language to communicate expectations, feasibility, and work satisfaction
  • Explore the role we each play in maintaining healthy staff culture
  • Practice being inquisitive rather than presumptive as a tool to improve our work experience and lift up our colleagues

Real Time Strategy Group is a boutique-consulting firm that specializes in supporting synagogues and other Jewish non-profits. RTS strives to help synagogue staffers feel confident in their work so their congregations run smoothly and thrive. Founding partners Caroline Dorn and Ellie Goldman met in the trenches of synagogue life and found they shared a love of the craft of community building and the craft of Jewish communal service. Together they are the voice of @RogueShul on Twitter.
