Grants 101: Focusing on Your Ws

Thursday, January 23, 2025 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EST)

Description

About the Session: During this session, we will construct the main body of your grant applications, focusing on the why, who, what, where, and when. We will also begin to describe the 'how' for individual grant needs, and cover grant types, key components of grants, and available resources. About the Presenter: Sarah Wilschek is the Executive Director of Congregation Ohev Beth Sholom in Youngstown, Ohio. She began her role as the first Executive Director for Rodef Sholom in April 2019 and continued in her position after the creation of Ohev Beth Sholom in November 2021. Throughout her career, Sarah has successfully secured grants for various projects, including Antisemitism education, the creation of an infant/toddler playground, the establishment of a formal archive for her congregation, and over $750,000 in security funding. Sarah's career spans both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, including 8 years in the JCC/Federation movement, 4 years with Hillel, and nearly 6 years with her current congregation. She has a professional passion for creating innovative governance structures for Jewish institutions, encouraging them to think beyond traditional infrastructure and envision future possibilities. Through her grant work, she also helps other institutions create innovative organizations. When not working, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family at home, the gymnastics gym, or the soccer field with her husband David, daughter Shayna, and son Jacob.
